Common questions

Which calculator tells me how many lots of gold to trade?

The position size calculator answers that. You give it your rand balance, the percentage you will risk, and your stop distance in pips, and it returns the lot size. Because gold is 100 oz per standard lot and one pip is 0.01, the output is directly usable on MT4, MT5, cTrader or FxPro Edge without further conversion.

How do I work out the rand value of one gold pip?

Use the pip value calculator. For XAU/USD, one pip is 0.01 and one standard lot is 100 oz, so a 1.00-lot position moves $1 per pip and a 0.10-lot position moves $0.10 per pip. The calculator converts that dollar figure into rand using the USD/ZAR rate you enter.

What is the margin calculator for if my broker sets the leverage?

The margin calculator shows what a given position will tie up before you open it. At 1:200 for retail, a 0.10-lot gold position needs about $85.50 margin; eligible or professional clients may see up to 1:500 depending on instrument. Use it to check free margin stays positive after the trade and after any rand conversion.

Can the profit calculator show a result in rand rather than dollars?

Yes. The profit calculator takes your entry, exit and lot size, computes the move in dollars using 100 oz per lot and 0.01 per pip, then converts to rand at the USD/ZAR rate you supply. The rand figure depends on that rate, so it will shift as the currency pair moves, even if gold itself is unchanged.

What do pivot points add that the other calculators do not?

The pivot points tool gives reference levels for the session rather than a position measurement. It calculates pivot, support and resistance levels from the prior period's high, low and close, which traders use to frame entries, stops and targets. You then feed the stop distance from those levels into the position size calculator.
